Matilda Bay Wedding: Perth Western Australia
If you’re dreaming of a Perth wedding with riverfront charm and city skyline views, Emily and Troy’s celebration at Matilda Bay Restaurant is all the inspiration you need.
With every part of the day set against the sweeping Swan River and no need to travel between locations, this wedding was effortlessly beautiful, deeply personal, and packed with memorable moments — including a hilarious photobomb photo session during the reception!

Getting Ready in Subiaco & Como
The day started in two very familiar places for Emily and Troy.
Troy got ready with his groomsmen at a sleek Airbnb in Subiaco. Cool, calm and quietly excited, he was also preparing to wear two hats — groom and executive chef. That’s right: Troy, who runs the kitchen at Matilda Bay Restaurant, although his other chefs would be cooking his hand selected and prepared wedding feast later that night.
Emily got ready just across the river in Como at a family member’s home. Surrounded by her bridal party, the vibe was warm and joyful — a mix of calm nerves, excited chatter, and quiet emotional moments as she stepped into her dress.

A Riverside Ceremony with City Skyline Views
Matilda Bay Restaurant sits right on the edge of the Swan River, and it doesn’t get much better than this for a ceremony location.
Framed by big shady trees and with uninterrupted views across the water to the Perth skyline, Emily and Troy’s ceremony took place on the lawn in front of the venue.
Their celebrant, Kirk Goodsell, created a warm, personal, and relaxed ceremony. There were big smiles, happy tears, and that kind of effortless energy that only comes when you’re surrounded by the people who matter most.

Wedding Photos at Matilda Bay – No Need to Leave
Matilda Bay is a dream for photographers — and for couples who don’t want to lose time travelling between locations.
From lush green lawns and dramatic old trees to soft riverside light and the jetty overlooking the city, we captured every portrait, candid, and detail shot right here.
Emily and Troy were the kind of couple who made the whole shoot easy — relaxed, totally in the moment, and clearly loving every second of their day.

A Reception dinner with a Personal Touch – Prepared by the Groom
Inside the restaurant, the mood was warm and buzzing. Floor-to-ceiling windows gave guests a view of the city lights across the water.
What made this reception truly unforgettable?
Troy prepared the food himself while his chefs finished the service on the wedding night.
As the executive chef of Matilda Bay Restaurant, he wasn’t about to sit this one out. He curated and prepared a menu just for their guests — turning the meal into something that felt more like a heartfelt gift than a formal dinner.
Every course was plated with care, full of bold flavour, and served up with a side of love. It’s not every day a groom is also the chef — and their guests will be talking about that part of the night for years to come.

DJ, Dancing & The Legendary Photobomb Session
Once the lights dimmed, the dance floor kicked off with music by Complete DJ, and the celebration really got going.
But the standout moment of the night?
A spontaneous photobomb photo session during the reception!
We set up an open space where guests could run into frame, pull a ridiculous face, or strike their most dramatic pose — all on the fly. From dance moves to dabs, flying jumps to champagne cheers, everyone got involved.
It was wild, fun, and totally unscripted — the perfect reminder that weddings should be filled with laughter and silliness too.
