Liz & Tristan’s Wedding, A Rainy but Beautiful Celebration
Every wedding has its own story. Some unfold exactly as planned, while others take a few unexpected turns. Liz and Tristan’s day was one of those unforgettable weddings where the weather had other ideas and yet, the rain only made the celebration more unique, more intimate, and more memorable.
Their wedding day took us across two family properties near Pinjarra, before a stop at the beautiful Redgum Wine Estate for photos, and back again for a relaxed reception on another family property.
A Ceremony with History
The original plan was for Liz and Tristan to marry outdoors on the lawn by the Murray River, a stunning setting that would have framed their vows with the river flowing quietly behind them. But early in the day, the rain began to fall, and it quickly became clear the ceremony would need to be moved.
Luckily, the family property held another special option: the wide verandah of the 1800’s era homestead. With its weathered timber, the verandah provided not only shelter from the rain but also a sense of history and character. The ruins of the old mill nearby added a rustic charm, as though the past was quietly watching over this new chapter for Liz and Tristan.
There was something beautiful about the way guests huddled together under the shelter, with rain falling on the roof above, while Liz and Tristan spoke their vows. It was intimate and heartfelt, a ceremony that truly belonged to the place and the moment.
The Rain Intensifies for wedding photos Redgum Wine Estate
After the ceremony, we set off for Redgum Wine Estate for photos. The drive itself was a battle against heavy rain, but when we arrived, things only intensified , the skies opened up even further, and strong winds swept across the property.
This is where Liz and Tristan showed just how resilient and adventurous they are. Instead of retreating straight indoors, they braved the elements for photos. The conditions were wild, umbrellas flipping inside out, raindrops soaking hair and dresses, jackets catching the wind, but in the middle of it all, there was laughter. These are the moments that can’t be staged: the real, raw beauty of a wedding day. The photos we captured in that stormy weather are full of drama and atmosphere, a true reflection of the day as it was.
A special mention has to go to Tegan, one of Liz’s bridesmaids. I had the privilege of photographing her wedding about eight years ago, where Liz was her bridesmaid. To see them swap places on this day was really special. Tegan was incredible, helping Liz through the challenging weather with so much care, a true champion and a wonderful friend.
Eventually, we made our way indoors at Redgum Wine Estate to warm up, dry off, and capture some softer, intimate portraits inside. It gave Liz and Tristan a moment to pause, breathe, and soak in the fact that, despite the rain they were finally married.
A Warm Reception on the Family Property
The evening celebrations were held back at another family property, inside a huge shed that had been transformed into a warm, inviting space. The styling was beautifully relaxed, a wedding that felt genuine and down to earth, just like Liz and Tristan.
Outside, a huge bonfire burned, sending warmth and light into the chilly night air. Guests gathered around it between meals and dances, sharing stories and enjoying the glow. It was the perfect contrast to the stormy afternoon, where earlier the rain had forced everyone closer together for shelter.
The food was nothing short of outstanding, thanks to Swell Fine Food Catering, who served up a feast that kept everyone warm, happy, and ready to party long into the night.
Embracing the Day as It Was
Looking back, Liz and Tristan’s wedding is a perfect reminder that no amount of rain can dampen the joy of two people coming together. If anything, the weather made their day even more memorable. The old homestead verandah, the stormy winery portraits, the laughter, the reception, each element came together to tell a story that was uniquely theirs.
Liz and Tristan embraced every moment, and in doing so, created a wedding day that was not only beautiful but unforgettable.
