A Modern Winter Wedding at WA Museum Boola Bardip | Lauren & Nicholas

Winter weddings in Perth have a unique kind of magic — moody skies, soft light, and an intimate atmosphere that makes every moment feel more meaningful. Lauren and Nicholas embraced that magic for their stylish city wedding at one of Perth’s most iconic venues: the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

From a heartfelt ceremony in Hackett Hall Alcove to a surprise reception reveal under a giant blue whale skeleton, their day was a beautiful blend of elegance, fun, and personality.

Bride and Groom getting ready

The day began in two very different, but equally relaxed, locations. Nicholas got ready at the couple’s home — a calm and familiar setting surrounded by close family and friends. Meanwhile, Lauren was just a few minutes away in the city, getting ready in the sleek and stylish Fraser Suites Perth.

Her look came together beautifully thanks to Pearlin Hair and Makeup Artist, who created a soft, timeless look that complemented her gown perfectly. Lauren’s stunning dress was from Tuscany Bridal, with delicate details that added elegance without overpowering her natural style. Nicholas wore a sharp M.J. Bale suit — classic and tailored, with just the right amount of modern edge.

Wedding Ceremony at Hackett Hall Alcove – WA Museum Boola Bardip

The ceremony took place in the Hackett Hall Alcove, a smaller space set-off to the side of Hackett Hall, a light-filled space with soaring ceilings that gave the moment a truly special feel. Marry Me Josh was the celebrant, and as always, he brought heart and humour in perfect balance, making the ceremony personal, warm, and full of joy.

Guests were welcomed into the alcove without yet seeing the reception space — a little touch of theatre that made the surprise reveal later on all the more exciting.

Wedding Photos in the Museum Grounds

With winter light fading fast, we moved straight into bridal party photos around the museum grounds. The mix of architecture — from heritage stone to modern glass — gave us the perfect backdrops, and the tight timing made every shot count.

Lauren and Nicholas were naturals in front of the camera, and the whole bridal party brought great energy despite the chilly air. These kinds of winter weddings are all about rolling with the rhythm of the day and making the most of every moment, and they did just that.

A Reception to Remember – Under the Whale

As guests mingled post-ceremony, the curtain hiding the reception space was drawn back to reveal Hackett Hall in all its glory. The look on everyone’s faces was priceless.

Above the tables and dancing space floated a giant blue whale skeleton, suspended from the ceiling — an awe-inspiring centrepiece that gave the reception a truly unforgettable atmosphere. It’s hard to imagine a more iconic wedding feature in Perth.

The space was expertly styled, with elegant florals by Blooming Bunches bringing warmth and colour to the cool museum interior. Guests were treated to a delicious menu by Heyder & Shears, one of Perth’s leading event caterers, known for their incredible presentation and bold, modern flavours.

Belle Classic Limousines ensured the bride and groom travelled in style to the venue, while Chris Martin Cinema captured the entire day on video — preserving every special moment for years to come.

Dancing the Night Away

The DJ for the evening was also the celebrant that’s right Josh is also a talented DJ! As the night went on, the space came alive with dancing, heartfelt speeches, and more than a few emotional moments. The atmosphere under the whale was magical — a mix of love, laughter, and pure celebration.

Lauren and Nicholas made the most of every second of their day, and it was a privilege to be there to capture it all.
